In 2011, I spent several weeks in Tanzania teaching at Peace House Africa, with several friends. PHA is an orphanage for children living with or affected by HIV AIDS. At that time, we met Loshiro who invited us to stay at his Maasai village (Boma). He was building a school and asked me to help him, but I was in my Master's program and lacked the funds or time to help. Despite my inability to help we have stayed in contact over the years.
The school is now built and Loshiro and his partner Samuel have asked that I come and help them create a curriculum for the school that blends both the Maasai heritage culture and Tanzanian curriculum. We would like to honor the indigenous ways of knowing that the Maasai have developed over their long history.
I have asked Simon to join me in order to help conduct a needs analysis for water and sanitation, as well as build a bicycle generator for the village.
We have collected an amazing international team for this project that spans Canada, Thailand, and Tanzania! I can't wait to see what happens in the next few months! Check back with us here for updates!
